Goodbye to Italian pair Berton/Hotarek, welcome to Marchei/Hotarek?

And again sad news for figure skating fans, but especially for the Italian team. The Italian pair Berton/Hotarek does no longer exist. Rumors about their separation were already spreading in may, but then everything was hushed-up.

Maybe hoping in the two skaters changing their mind, the Italian federation did not notify the ISU of Berton/Hotarek's separation and the pair was included in the list of entries for the next Grand Prix.

Rumors want Ondrej Hotarek seeking a new partnership with Italian champion Valentina Marchei. Notwithstanding, it is not clear if Valentina Marchei is supposed to compete in both single and pairs competitions, or to choose pairs over single. Nothing is known about Stefania Berton's future projects, but it is likely she will pursue her competitive career with another partner.

Frankly, considering the problems intrinsic the formation of a new pair, and a question of age, the chances that the new allegedly pair formed by Marchei/Hotarek will be competitive, and competitive soon, are slim. But with all the splitting and changing of late, well never say never.

Anyway, we wish all the best to all of them.
