Skating to “Violin Muse” by Ikuko Kawai, Volosozhar/Trankov, the last pair to take the ice, produced a triple twist, a side by side triple Salchow and triple toe-double toe combination as well as a throw triple loop and Salchow. The European Champions picked up a level four for seven elements.  Their only mistake came when Trankov tripped on his toepick and fell after Volosozhar landed her throw triple salchow. They set a new highest score in the Free Skating with 149.87 points and new highest total score at 225.71 points.

Savchenko/Szolkowy opened their routine to “Flamenco Bolero” with a throw triple flip and completed a triple twist, level-four lifts and a wonderful throw triple Axel (two footed, maybe?) at the very end of the program just like Tatjiana Flade anticipated!
However, Savchenko doubled the side-by-side jumps while he fell on a triple Salchow. The four-time World Champions scored 132.09 points and moved up from third to second at 205.56 points overall to win their seventh consecutive medal at Worlds.

Duhamel/Radford’s routine to the “Angel” movie soundtrack featured a triple twist, a side by side triple Lutz, throw triple loop and Salchow, but all lifts were graded a level two. The Canadian Champions scored a new personal best with 130.95 points and slipped to third at 204.56 points overall.

Kirsten Moore-Towers/Dylan Moscovitch moved up from fifth to fourth at 199.50 points with a strong performance. Two-time World Champions Qing Pang/Jian Tong finished fifth at 194.64 points while Yuko Kavaguti/Alexander Smirnov came sixth (191.59 points).

Just to tell you what goes on behind the scenes (but not so behind after all) when you put figure skating fans and twitter toghether, and belive me, it is a lethal mix!

Chan’s program to “La Boheme” was highlighted by a quad-triple toe combination, another quadruple toeloop and difficult spins and footwork, but he fell on a triple Lutz and underrotated triple Axel. Chan was ranked second in the Free Skating with 169.41 points but overall held on to first place at 267.78 points to win his third consecutive World title.

Performing to “The Artist” soundtrack, Ten reeled off a quadruple toeloop, a triple Axel-triple toeloop, another triple Axel as well as three more triples and two level-four spins. With a beautiful program, the skater from Kazakhstan earned a personal best score of 174.92 points and was ranked first in the Free Skating. Overall he racked up 266.48 points and remained in second place to win a historical medal for Kazakhstan.
